Anderson de Queiroz

Research Assistant Professor

My primary research interests are in the use, and development of decision-making frameworks and methodologies to different real life problems. Moreover, I plan to expand my current research in modeling and analytics by applying ideas to other areas of interest. One of my objectives is to better use theoretical developments and apply them to model-based analysis that informs real world decision-making. Over the last several years, I have developed computational machinery using mathematical optimization solvers and parallel programing to solve electric and energy systems problems. My work on algorithm development applied to hydro-thermal coordination has led to improved water management in Brazil. Currently, we are enhancing these ideas and creating novel frameworks in other areas such as control strategies for energy storage devices and electric vehicles. Also, I have performed research in electricity markets in topics such as locational marginal pricing, tariff structure, power generation investment decision analysis and benchmark regulation. My future research plans are aimed at developing and testing different methodologies to deal decision-making under uncertainty and the use of statistical and predictive analytics techniques, properly combined with prescriptive models when suitable, to enable better quality decisions.
